Sorry for the delay, we know you guys have been checking back every 10 minutes to see the pictures of the van. It took a little longer than expected to get it insulated and to put up the wood panels. My friend
Pete, who is a fellow artist from Cape Cod, was nice enough to say he would help me fix up the inside of the van to make it sleep friendly. It was more of an undertaking than either of us thought it would be. I arrived at
Pete's place in Eastham around 11am, after a few quick measurements we headed over to the hardware store to get the supplies needed.
Below is a shot of the van before any work has been done, the wood on the floor is from the hardware store. I should mention the van is a Ford E-150 with a V-6 engine, for those of you who are wondering.

Below is a picture of the inside of the van as well, before any work was done.

The first stage was getting the ceiling covered up! (below)

Below you can see that we have started to get the bed platform started and it is starting to get dark...around this time another Cape Cod artist and friend
Jerome showed up to help out.
Oh and I should mention, when I say "we" during any of this I really mean
Pete or
Jerome, I felt pretty useless I was kinda standing around waiting for
Pete or
Jerome to tell me to do something, which usually consisted of sanding an edge of a panel, or coloring in a coloring book to keep me busy and out of their way.

Below is a shot of
some of
Pete's tools. We started the day off with a couple of saws, and a power drill, then every 15 minutes
Pete would run down to his basement to grab another gadget to do something else. By the end of the night
Pete's front yard looked like the tool section of Home Depot.

Below you can see
Jerome screwing in a wood panel to the wall of the van. Also the bed platform is coming along nicely. Check out the rad rounded edges and other fancy touches on the back door panels.

Below is a kinda dark shot of the finished van! It really needs to be seen in person to get the full impact of how cool it looks. We put the mattress on the platform to make sure it fit, and it fit perfectly. I am able to lay completely flat without having to bend my knees! I couldn't have done this without
Pete and
Jerome's help, so click their names to see their paintings and buy one or two so they don't feel like they wasted their day completely. As I said I got there around 11am and left a little after midnight, basically non-stop work the whole time, and it was a cold day and even colder night, but we still managed to have fun.
Lindsey and I still have to hang the curtains, put in some battery operated lights and some other fun stuff and then we will be ready to hit the road. We should be leaving within the next few days. We will start posting again when the trip gets going! Check back if a few days. -

Hi Logan and Lidsey.
Pete really can pimp out a van! Nice sanded edges too Logan.
My suggestion is head south as fast as you can. Well, don't go over the speed limit or anything, but hit warm weather ASAP.
I would not have checked back every ten minutes if I knew you would be sending out an email heads up to the van pics.
Suerte!
Hey Frank,
Yeah good idea, we want to get out of this cold weather its already freezing here!
Rad van!! You guys did a great job insulating it.
Wow, all in one day too! Holy smokes. Where are you guys headed? Do you have a treasure map to guide you?
Looking forward to reading all about it.!
Happy travels!

Hey Ern,
Yeah I can't believe we got it all done!
We don't really have a treasure map, just a sort of loose plan of where we want to go. We are going to try to hit a lot of art museums along the way that we have wanted to see. But we are going to stick to a southern route to stay with the warmer weather.
Hey you two. Good luck on your adventure! Sorry I missed you at Pete's but I drove to NY that day. Pharr and I have driven south a few times. Recommendations: Coastal route- Cape May NJ, take ferry to Delaware. Ocean City MD is high rise condos and boardwalk but nearby Berlin MD is kind of a nice old fashioned little town used as a movie set in several movies. Coastal Maryland see Assateague and Chincoteague islands (wild ponies), south on 113 to 13 and over the Chesapeape Bay Bridge. In NC follow the Outer Banks all the way to Ocracoke and take the ferry toward Moorehead City. Follow the coast. Charleston by the water is really beautiful and fun. Some pretty good galleries. Folly Island is nice, just south of Charleston. Definitely go to Beaufort SC and head out to Hunting Island State Park where you can camp on the beach under palm trees. Really nice! (Myrtle Beach- too developed. Hilton Head- a lot of gated developments but you can stop by Morris and Whiteside Gallery.) Savannah is a fun town. Jekyll Island in southern GA is supposed to be nice. Too much info? I hope you can use some of it. If I think of more good ideas I'll let you know. Drive safe. Take your time and take a lot of pictures! -Schulie
